How online image compression actually works
Lossy formats such as JPG and WebP throw away detail your eye barely notices. Our engine re-encodes your image repeatedly with a binary search over the quality range 0.05–0.95 until it lands just under the size you asked for, so you always get the best-looking file that still fits the limit.
If even the lowest acceptable quality is too large, the tool steps the pixel dimensions down gradually (90%, 80%, 70% and so on) instead of failing.
