Why 1MB is a comfortable target
1MB (1024 KB) is generous enough that a 12-megapixel photo can usually keep its full width and height. The compressor only reduces dimensions when quality alone cannot reach the limit, so your image stays sharp.
Getting under 1MB without visible loss
A few habits make a big difference when you are aiming at a hard limit.
- Choose WebP if the destination accepts it — typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at equal quality
- Use JPG for photographs and PNG only when you need transparency
