Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. OPTIMIZE IMAGE runs the entire compression inside your browser using the Canvas and Blob APIs. Your photo never leaves your device, so there is nothing for us to store, log or leak.

Does reducing size change the dimensions?

Not in Smart Compression mode. In target-size mode dimensions only shrink if quality reduction alone cannot reach your target.

Is it really free and unlimited?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no per-file limit. Because the work happens on your own device, there are no server costs to pass on to you.

File size vs dimensions

File size is how much storage the image occupies. Dimensions are the pixel width and height. A 4000×3000 photo can be 8MB or 300KB depending on how it was encoded — which is why compression alone is often enough.

Choosing a mode

Smart Compression is for 'just make it smaller'. Target File Size is for hard limits.

Smart — High (85%): archive-grade, barely visible change
Smart — Recommended (75%): the best default for the web
Smart — Small (60%): maximum savings for thumbnails and previews
Target size: exact 50KB → 2MB or any custom value
